“I have worked with TLC for 15 years,” he explained. “Crescent Communities selected them for this project because of the quality of their work. We regard that as a compliment to PPG PAINTS as well, because TLC is reluctant to use paint suppliers other than PPG.”

TLC Drywall is a one of the largest drywall and painting contractors in North Carolina. One reason for the company’s success is its long-standing vendor relationships.

Recently, TLC teamed up with one of those trusted vendors – PPG PAINTS – to earn the painting contract for The Village at Research Park, an upscale 63-acre mixed and multi-family family development about 10 miles from uptown Charlotte.

The project, which features six residential buildings, a leasing office and clubhouse in a walkable, interconnected community with shopping and green spaces, required coatings for a broad range of interior and exterior surfaces. They included concrete and masonry, gypsum soffit board, mineral fiber cement (MFC panels), woodwork, and three kinds of metal:  ferrous, galvanized and aluminum.

As part one of the world’s largest coatings companies, PPG PAINTS offered solutions for almost every surface featured on the project. For instance, PITT-TECH® direct-to-metal (DTM) primer was used in combination with SPEEDHIDE® exterior latex paint to finish stair rails, balcony rails and similar metal fixtures through the complex, while alkali-resistant PERMACRETE® primer/sealer and Speedhide latex satin paints added beauty and endurance to the exterior siding.

TLC also benefitted from PPG PAINTS local service capabilities. Project designers at Crescent Communities specified a dozen colors for the Village at Research Park, which PPG was able to match at its local retail outlet in nearby Concord. Located just four miles from the project, the store enabled Jim McKimmon, a sales representative with PPG PAINTS, and his team to turn paint orders around within hours, if necessary.

McKimmon said TLC insisted on using PPG PAINTS for the project despite the building owner’s standing agreement with a competing paint supplier.

Eric Paradis, head of construction and president of TLC Drywall and Paint, is proud of the reputation his company has built throughout the state of North Carolina. “TLC has a standard about it that is second to none as far as I am concerned,” he said.

One reason for that is its selection of materials. “We’re very quality-minded,” Paradis added. “We use [high-quality] products that no other companies use. That’s why continually work for the same customers.  My philosophy is simple.  I don’t need a lot of customers, but the ones I have I want to keep them coming back.”

Quality and customer service also are two reasons TLC continues to rely on PPG Paints.
